The Nigerian social media space stood still yesterday when a poet pulled a romantic stunt to wish his lover a happy birthday.
Nigerian poet and linguist, Kola Tubosun (Attempted Speech & Other Poems, Saraba), celebrated his wife, Temie, in what has got us all mushy. He wrote a poem extolling the virtues of his wife, including some playful details. But what got everyone talking was how he conspired with some friends of his family to deploy the poem. He shared couplets with selected friends and required them to share on Twitter with the hashtag – #T32.
It was only time before the celebrant figured what was going on after she noticed her friends’ posts and the hashtag

The 32-line poem nods to Temie’s new age.
It might seem like a small stunt in celebrating a life. But the effort and thinking made it remarkable. Chris Ogunlowo shared the tweets, and the stunt has since been buzzing on social media.
The romantic husband, Kola Tubosun, is a voice among new generation of Nigerian poets. His debut work Attempted Speech Other Fatherhood Poems was published by Saraba. The celebrant is a social entrepreneur and the founder of Mobile Lifebank.
